YouTube, a Google subsidiary, stated on Tuesday that it will soon require creators to notify when they utilise generative AI tools to make realistic but produced material. This move comes in response to mounting worries over the increasing amount of altered or synthetic content.

Content creators will now have more alternatives when posting videos to disclose whether or not they contain changed or synthetic material, especially when those movies show people saying or doing things they didn't do, or depict events that never happened. With this action, possible misinformation on touchy subjects like elections, ongoing conflicts, public health emergencies, or remarks made by public authorities would hopefully be addressed.

YouTube issued a warning, stating that creators who repeatedly remove this information may face penalties, content removal, and/or suspension from the YouTube Partner Programme, among other consequences.

YouTube will add a new label in the description panel that says "some content has been altered or synthetic" to alert users to the nature of the video. Videos that cover delicate subjects will have a label placed on the player that is more noticeable. Depending on Community Guidelines, synthetic media that could be harmful in some circumstances—regardless of labeling—will be eliminated.

Additionally, YouTube will make it obvious when content produced by its generative AI tools and features is modified or artificial. Through the platform's privacy request process, users will be able to request the removal of artificial intelligence (AI)-generated or other synthetic content that mimics an identifiable individual, including their voice or face, in the coming months.

Removal requests may be subject to a higher removal level depending on factors such as the level of parody or satire, the distinctiveness of the requester, and whether the content involves a public figure or other well-known person.

Additionally, YouTube is allowing labels or distributors who represent creatorstaking part in the platform's early AI music experiments to request the removal of AI-generated music content that mimics an artist's distinctive singing or rapping voice. This removal request functionality is being extended by YouTube to its music partners.
