Zoom, a popular professional video conferencing platform, has announced the introduction of the AI-based Intelligent Director for the rooms, which will provide the best possible images and angles of the users using multiple cameras so that other participants can see them clearly, even in larger conference rooms. The feature will help the users who take part in hybrid meetings and is said to be designed for medium-to-large sized rooms and avoid the bowling alley effect.
Speaking of functionality, the business has revealed that it can use multiple cameras to individually frame up to 16 participants in the Zoom Meeting Room, stream the finest footage using AI created by Zoom, and transmit that stream to the meeting's gallery view.
"An evolution of the Zoom Smart Gallery feature, which uses a single camera and AI to give each person in a small to medium-sized room their own space in a Zoom Meeting, Intelligent Director takes this same technology to the next level for larger conference rooms," the company said in a statement.
“Even though certain employees are present in the office, other team members are frequently distributed, making meeting equity and inclusion more critical than ever. Intelligent Director is a system that can bring employees together regardless of distance, allowing them to connect face-to-face,” said Smita Hashim, Chief Product Officer at Zoom.
The video conferencing system added that it now allows remote users to speak face-to-face with each Zoom Rooms user, enabling in-room users to see and hear far away participants.

With this functionality, the business hopes to address the issue of users being obscured by others in larger settings when a conference is joined using only a single camera. The multi-camera arrangement, together with AI, is specifically designed to provide equity to everyone in the room.
