At least six college students from the Culinary Academy of India (CAI) were arrested for consuming ganja (weed) during a birthday party in Hyderabad. According to a press note issued by the Narcotics Police Station (HNPS) of the Eagle Force, 11 students initially confessed to consuming ganja during questioning.
According to the NDTV report, six students, identified as Sakshi Emaliya (22), Mohit Shahi (21), Shubham Rawat (27), Carolina Cynthiya Harrison (19), Aric Jonathan Anthony (21), and Loy Baruah (22), are final-year students pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Catering Technology and Culinary Arts. They were booked under the NDPS Act, 1985.

Urine tests supervised by the parents and college principal confirmed that six students had consumed THC, a banned substance under the NDPS Act. Following the confirmation, the students received counselling in the presence of their families and Principal N. Sudhakar Rao before being admitted to a de-addiction centre for treatment.
According to the NDTV report, police said both the students and their parents have sought withdrawal of the case upon successful completion of the rehabilitation process. Investigators also identified a man named Jason, a resident of SR Nagar, as the alleged supplier of ganja to students Loy Baruah and Aric Jonathan Anthony. The inquiry into his involvement is ongoing.
Authorities noted that similar drug-related cases had previously occurred at the Culinary Academy of India, where students were let off with counselling. The Eagle Force criticised the college for its minimal disciplinary action and failure to address repeated incidents seriously.
"The recurrence of such cases reflects institutional negligence in ensuring a drug-free campus," the HNPS stated in its release.
The force announced stricter enforcement, warning that any student caught using drugs will face criminal proceedings and mandatory rehabilitation before being cleared from police records. Meanwhile, parents have urged the institution to conduct random drug screenings, and the Eagle Force confirmed it will carry out surprise doping tests for students who attended the recent party.
