Bengaluru News: An elderly woman in Kooguru village, located in Anekal taluk near Bengaluru was allegedly murdered for her jewellery, her body kept hidden inside a house for two days and later dumped near a lake in Kooguru village, located in Anekal taluk near Bengaluru. The crime was uncovered following an investigation by the Sarjapur Police.
The victim, identified as Bhadramma (68), went missing on October 30. Despite extensive searches by her family and villagers, she could not be found. A missing person complaint was lodged at the Sarjapur Police Station the next day, prompting a detailed investigation.
On November 6, police received a tip-off suggesting that the woman was last seen entering the house of a local resident named Deepa. Acting on the lead, officers detained Deepa for questioning. During interrogation, she confessed to the murder, revealing disturbing details of how the crime was planned and executed.
According to police, Deepa invited Bhadramma to her home under the pretext of offering Kajjaya, a traditional sweet and later strangled her to steal her gold chain. After the murder, Deepa packed the victim’s body into a bag and kept it hidden inside her home for two days. When the smell of decomposition began to spread, she moved the body into another bag.
Investigators said Deepa then called her son, telling him they needed to dispose of “garbage.” Together, they carried the body to Doddathimmasandra Lake, where they dumped it among bushes near the lakebed.
After returning home, Deepa allegedly behaved as though nothing had happened, even telling Bhadramma’s anxious family that the elderly woman had already returned home.
Police later recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem examination. Deepa was arrested soon after. Officers suspect greed for gold as the primary motive behind the murder.
A case of murder and destruction of evidence has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Sarjapur Police Station. Further investigation is underway to determine whether any of Deepa’s family members assisted her in concealing the crime or disposing of the jewellery.
