Bengaluru News: A one-year-eight-month-old boy lost his life after a cement mixer truck pulled down the parapet wall of his house on Friday evening in Bengaluru’s Kundalahalli Colony.
The victim, identified as Pranav, was the only child of Siddappa and Lavanya, who worked as labourers and lived in a small rented house with an asphalt roof. According to the police, the mishap occurred when the truck’s chute got entangled with an overhead electric wire connected to a nearby pole. The force of the pull caused the pole and an aluminium pipe attached to the roof to collapse, bringing down part of the wall.

Pranav, who was playing near the entrance of the house, was struck by the falling debris. His mother, Lavanya, tried to rescue him, but the wall collapsed before she could reach him. The injured child was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the truck had been engaged at an under-construction site a few metres away from the family’s home. The accident took place around 3:15 PM, when the driver was leaving the site. Despite warnings from locals to stop, he allegedly continued to drive, causing the wire to snap.
The driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the spot, fearing an attack from angry residents. Police from HAL Law and Order Station have registered a case and launched a search to trace him.
The child’s body has been sent to Bowring Hospital for post-mortem. Lavanya and another young girl sustained minor injuries. Local residents have demanded strict action against the driver and better monitoring of heavy vehicle movement in residential areas.
