A couple was caught by officials after they had come to buy ganja with their 4-year-old son in Hyderabad's IT corridor, Gachibowli. The man was tested positive for consumption and was detained while his wife and child were allowed to go. The officials, who belonged to the Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE) caught a total of 14 people buying ganja in the area on Saturday. The people were referred to certified drug de-addiction centers for treatment and rehabilitation.
EAGLE Superintendent of Police Chennuri Roopesh told NDTV that they had been tracking a man named Sandeep from Maharashtra. He had been selling ganja in Gachibowli locality. Sandeep's customers are employees in the IT sector and other private sector staff.

According to the intelligence gathered by drug enforcement officials, Sandeep communicated using coded WhatsApp messages like "Bhai baccha aa gaya bhai" to intimate customers about fresh stock. He had around 100 regular customers. He carried 5 kg ganja and distributed it in 100 packets, each weighing 50 g. Each packet was sold for Rs 3,000.
On Saturday, EAGLE officials planned an operation to bust a ganja distribution network. They wore civil dress and stationed themselves near the spot used for exchange. They caught 14 people within 2 hours and all of them tested positive for cannabis use. Sandeep, however, managed to escape.
Among those caught by officials are an architect, an online trader, a sales executive, an IT sector employee and a student, as per the report.
