Hyderabad News: A 24-year-old man has been arrested in Hyderabad for allegedly harassing an IT professional and his female colleague by recording them without permission and posting the video on social media. The incident took place on NTR Marg on July 29 when the two were heading home.
The accused, who works as a driver for a ride-hailing service, approached the duo on a two-wheeler and began filming them using his mobile phone. According to the police, he targeted the woman for being with a man from a different religion while wearing a hijab. He allegedly used abusive language, physically assaulted them and threatened them with serious consequences.
Fearing for their safety, the victims fled the spot on their bike. However, the accused followed them while continuing to record videos until they reached the Himayat Nagar area.
Deputy Commissioner of Police K Shilpavalli stated that the video was later circulated on various social media platforms, quickly drawing widespread attention. Police said the footage posed a serious risk to the victims and their families by potentially inciting communal violence.
Following a complaint lodged by the IT employee, Saifabad Police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the IT Act. CCTV footage helped the police track down and identify the accused. He was later taken into custody.

During questioning, the man admitted to filming and sharing the video. Police seized his mobile phone and the two-wheeler used in the incident. A preliminary inquiry suggested that the video was uploaded with the intention of spreading communal hatred, violating privacy and fuelling division.
The DCP made it clear that moral policing is illegal and that no one has the right to intimidate others based on personal or religious choices. She added that strict legal action would be taken in such cases, regardless of the offender’s background.
Police are continuing their investigation to identify those operating social media accounts that promoted the video.
