Hyderabad Metro Rail Project: Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the proposed second phase of the metro rail project, which includes a 76.4 km stretch with five corridors at an estimated cost of Rs 24,269 crore and urged for the immediate approval of this ambitious project. The CM called on the Prime Minister in Delhi and also sought funding for the Musi River redevelopment, among other initiatives.
During the meeting on Wednesday, CM Reddy pointed out that the previous government, over its 10-year tenure, had neglected the metro expansion in Hyderabad, according to an official release.
Since Telangana is a landlocked state, the CM requested Modi to sanction a Dry Port near the Regional Ring Road in Hyderabad to facilitate exports and imports of goods.
The Chief Minister also proposed the construction of a greenfield road and a rail line to connect the proposed Dry Port to a seaport. Highlighting the state government's plans for the rejuvenation of the Musi River in Hyderabad, Reddy urged Prime Minister Modi to provide financial assistance of Rs 20,000 crore for the project. The Musi redevelopment plan includes the restoration of Bapu Ghat, a memorial for Mahatma Gandhi on the riverbanks, the construction of 27 Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs), the development of retaining walls and linking the Musi with the Godavari River.

Highlighting the ecosystem in the state, the Chief Minister requested Modi to sanction a 'India Semiconductor Mission project'. Besides, the CM appealed to Modi to approve the southern part of the Regional Ring Road (RRR) in Hyderabad and said 90 per cent of the land acquisition has already been completed in the northern part. The CM asserted that the RRR can be best utilised only if the RRR works in the southern and northern parts are completed simultaneously.
He also outlined a proposal to develop a Regional Ring Rail project parallel to the Regional Ring Road (RRR), aimed at enhancing railway connectivity within Telangana and neighbouring states.
