Hyderabad Mock Drill Today: Hyderabad will restrict traffic at several intersections on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, from 4 to 4:30 PM for a large-scale civil defence mock drill. This will limit traffic movement except for essential services.
“Traffic movement will be restricted in the identified zones for a few minutes during the siren call, with ambulances and other emergency services getting a green channel. Emergency response vehicles will be deployed as part of the drill. Temporary power blackouts, air-raid sirens, and loudspeaker announcements will mimic real-time emergency conditions,” explained an officer from the Hyderabad traffic police.
The exercise, have been code-named "Operation Abhyaas." It will take place at four key points along the Outer Ring Road (ORR) boundaries at Secunderabad Cantonment, Golconda Cantonment, Kanchan Bagh, and Nacharam.
The State police, armed forces, fire department, health teams, and civic agencies will all participate in the simulation, which will be organised in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and Telangana State Disaster Response and Fire Services.
During the mock drill, Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) buses would navigate Hyderabad roads without any disruptions.
The exercise will take place in the wake of increased security concerns after India launched retaliatory strikes on May 7.
The Indian military launched precise attacks under "Operation Sindoor" against nine terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir in retaliation for the April 22 terror assault in Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of 26 people.
