Residents of Venkatadri Nagar, near Hyderabad's Jeedimetla Industrial Estate, were shocked when red-coloured water gushed from a manhole, flooding the streets and creating a blood-like scene. The pungent stench of the liquid caused breathing difficulties, while videos of the eerie spectacle quickly circulated on social media.
The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) dismissed claims that expired paint was illegally dumped into the sewage system, though several residents alleged otherwise.
A water board official from the Quthbullapur division clarified, ''No prior reports indicate such coloured water in the sewer network, suggesting the chemical waste was dumped directly onto the streets,'' the official said as reported by The Times of India.

The red water was cleared by Monday, but residents remained distressed, citing previous instances of industrial waste being illegally disposed of. ''There is no monitoring of industrial waste disposal. Authorities like the Pollution Control Board or GHMC must enforce stringent measures,'' a resident said.

Locals also expressed frustration over the delayed response from authorities, urging immediate action against those responsible. They further appealed to the government to address illegal dumping, especially since the area’s nearby river has long been polluted by industrial pollution.
