Hyderabad Traffic Advisory: The Tarnaka Junction under the flyover, which was reopened on a trial basis from April 18, 2025 to facilitate movement between Osmania University and Lalapet, will be closed from Friday, June 6. The junction was supposed to ease traffic congestion, however, it made matters worse with more traffic snarls.
Those travelling between Habsiguda and Mettuguda are not using the underpass but opting for the flyover instead. Although the signal below remains operational, but, with the flyover offering a free run, more vehicles are using it, causing heavy congestion on the approach roads, said a police officer, as per The Hindu Report.

Reason Behind The Closure
During the trial period, comprehensive studies, including drone surveys, Google traffic analysis, signal timing tests, and commuter feedback were conducted. Findings concluded that keeping the junction open leads to increased congestion and safety risks.
“It is advisable to close the Tarnaka Junction (below the flyover) to ease out traffic congestion, avoid road accidents and in the interest and safety of common road users,” said the Hyderabad traffic police in a statement.
The closure is being implemented in the interest of smoother traffic flow and public safety. Citizens are requested to take note and plan their travel accordingly.
