The Commission of Food Safety conducted food safety inspections in different locations in Hyderabad on Saturday. The food safety regulator found violations of rules in several outlets, where unlabelled products and food products with expiry dates were sold. The officials stated that these eateries violated the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) regulations, which are set for regular operations of food outlets.

The task force of the Commission of Food Safety inspected various popular eateries in the city, including Karachi Bakery, Clove Vegetarian Fine Dine, Creamstone and Bilal Ice Cream outlet, among others, which were seen flaunting hygienic norms and food safety regulations.

At Karachi Bakery in Mozzam-Jahi Market, officials seized and discarded expired food items worth Rs 5,200, including rusks, biscuits, candy, chocolate cakes, toasts and buns. The bakery also faced questions for not displaying expiry dates on pastries and cakes, a violation of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) regulations.

The same establishment had live cockroaches in the ice cream storage unit and fungus-infected carrots were deemed unfit for consumption. A cooked vegetable biryani was also found in the fridge under unhygienic conditions.

The Creamstone outlet was caught serving cakes without expiry dates, while the Bilal Ice Cream outlet operated without a valid license and sold counterfeit brand water bottles. Firefly restaurant and Air Live at Sarath City Mall were cited for hygiene and pest-related issues, with the latter using substandard water bottles.
