The speed limit on the main Hyderabad airport access road leading to the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) has been increased from 60 kmph to 80 kmph on Monday, according to directives issued by the Cyberabad police. According to officials, the amended rule came into effect on December 11.
A note from Cyberabad Commissioner Stephen Raveendra stated that the RGIA (traffic) police had looked into the matter following the receipt of an application from K. Sanjay Kaparaju, Vice President and Head of Ground Transportation at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Shamshabad.
“The application was to grant approval for revision of the speed from 60 kmph to 80 kmph and also to enforce a system on the main access road at RGI Airport,” said the official.
The RGIA traffic police reported that increasing the speed limits on the main access route at RGI Airport would not result in any traffic problems.
The revised speed limit is in effect for the roughly six-kilometre stretch of road that follows the Shamshabad flyover and leads to the airport. It is now possible to reduce the previously estimated 20–25 minute average time on the route to 10–15 minutes.
