Amid escalated tension between India and Pakistan, a massive protest erupted in front of Hyderabad's Karachi Bakery due to its brand name's similarity with a key Pakistani city. The protestors stated that while Pakistan has a role in promoting terrorism in India, the bakery is generating wealth by using one of its city's names. However, the bakery owners emphasised that it is an Indian brand and was named after Karachi just because the founders had migrated from the city. The owners further urged the authorities to not change the name and protect them from the protestors.
"Karachi Bakery was founded here in Hyderabad in 1953 by Khanchand Ramnani, who migrated to India during the Partition. It has been 73 years. Our grandfather named it after Karachi, as he came to India after Partition. We request the Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and senior officers of administration to support to prevent any change in the name," the owner was quoted as saying by PTI.

"People are putting up Tricolour in the outlets of the bakery across the city. Kindly support us as we are an Indian brand and not a Pakistani brand,” he added. However, Shivaram, the regional Convenor of the Bajrang Dal stated that no one will visit the bakery if the owners do not change the name, further adding that the Hindu-outfit will change the name if the owners fail to do so.

“When there are war clouds over India and Pakistan, Bajrang Dal is warning those who love Pakistan to leave the country. The names that are linked to Pakistan should also be changed. Hyderabad-based Karachi Bakery’s name should be changed. We should stand by our army and remove any references to Pakistan. If they do not change the name then nobody should visit the store. We will change the name, if they don’t,” Shivaram was quoted as saying by The Week.
