The Telangana government plans to establish a 'Future City' on the outskirts of Hyderabad, redevelop the Musi River and construct a Regional Ring Road to transform the region. This initiative was announced by Special Chief Secretary (IT) Jayesh Ranjan during the launch of columnist Dinesh C Sharma's book, Beyond Biryani - The Making of a Globalised Hyderabad.
Special Chief Secretary (IT) Jayesh Ranjan highlighted that the proposed 'Future City' will feature hubs focused on education, sports and medical tourism. He stated that the Telangana CM feels that there is a need to move to the next level (with the development of the future city).
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy introduced the concept of "Future City" during the state assembly's budget session on July 31. He highlighted the evolution of Hyderabad, noting that it originally comprised the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad.
As technology advanced and the needs of the new generation emerged, the city expanded to include Cyberabad, which has developed into a major information technology hub over the past two decades. Reddy emphasised that it is now essential to broaden the city's horizons further to address the future needs of its residents.
CM Revanth Reddy envisions the development of the Future City as India's first Net Zero Carbon city, becoming a central hub for sectors like Artificial Intelligence, software, pharmaceuticals and sports. CMReddy likened the project to a "second round of gold rush," showcasing the region's vast potential during an official roundtable meeting with CEOs of top companies in New York.
''We are building the Future City, which will be India’s answer to the future. It will be India’s first Net Zero Carbon city. Future City will become a hub for Artificial Intelligence, medical tourism, sports, software and pharma. It is like a second round of gold rush,'' the chief minister said in the meeting earlier this month.

Meanwhile, Special Chief Secretary (IT) Jayesh Ranjan also praised Dinesh C Sharma's book for effectively capturing Hyderabad's transformation, describing it as "the work of a genius."
The author noted that his research uncovered two dominant narratives about the city: one of nostalgia for its past glory and another lamenting its current state. He expressed a desire to bridge the gap in understanding Hyderabad's contemporary identity, believing that many locals focus primarily on its real estate boom rather than its rich evolution.
