It possesses 23 platforms, which is the maximum number in the Indian railway network. Howrah Junction receives more than 1,000 trains almost every day and is among the largest train stations in the world. It deals with 974 train arrivals and departures on a daily basis. The chaotic train station comes under the jurisdiction of the South Eastern Railway and the Eastern Railway. Along with Sealdah, Santragachi, Dankuni, Shalimar, and Kolkata railway stations, Howrah Junction is one of the six intercity train stations in the Kolkata metropolitan region.

2. New Delhi Railway Station
New Delhi Railway Station is India's second-largest station that deals with high train frequency and heavy passenger flow on a daily basis. It is a legitimate hub of travellers in the country's capital. The station has 16 platforms and deals with over 350 trains daily and hosts about 500,000 passengers every day. During the peak festival seasons, this number goes up to 600,000.

3. Kanpur Central (UP)
Kanpur Central is one of the major railway stations in Uttar Pradesh with the largest interlocking system globally. Approximately 611 trains operate through this station every day. Kanpur Central consists of ten platforms and is connected to more than 580 stations, which is the highest number of connections to a single station in India.

4. Kalyan Junction
Kalyan Junction is one of Mumbai's busiest railway stations on the central line. It is a passenger and goods carriage hub. It was built in 1854 in the Thane district of Maharashtra.

Prayagraj Junction is the biggest railway station in Uttar Pradesh, which is linked to different cities across India. It was formerly known as Allahabad Junction.
6. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Mumbai
The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus of Mumbai is the oldest railway station in India. Initially, it was named as Victoria Terminus. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Property. Approximately 1,250 local and long-distance trains arrive and depart from its 18 platforms, with more than a million travellers every day. The station is the headquarters of Central Railways. The name of the station was renamed CST in March 1996 to commemorate the founder of the Maratha empire Chhatrapati Shivaji.
7. Patna Junction
Patna Junction is a key railway station in Bihar, which deals with 173 trains across India. It falls between Kolkata and Delhi, which makes it an important halt for most trains. More than 400,000 people travel through this station almost every day.
8. Chennai Central
Chennai Central is the central railway station of Tamil Nadu, linking Chennai to other cities in South India and other regions of the nation. It serves both local and long-distance travel, while, accommodating 350,000 passengers regularly.
9. Vijayawada Railway Station
Vijayawada Railway Station in Andhra Pradesh receives more than 400 trains daily and has traffic of over a lakh passengers per day. The station consists of ten platforms and is classified as an A-1 station in India.
10. Lucknow (LKO)
Around 230 trains travel through the Lucknow railway station on a regular basis, which makes it one of the busiest in India in terms of train frequency.
