Blackout Cities In India 2025: The ongoing India-Pakistan conflict has escalated tensions nationwide. A sweeping wave of blackouts has enveloped several Indian cities and border districts as a precautionary measure after the missile and drone attacks from Pakistan. Indian authorities have enforced some useful measures to ensure civilian safety, protect critical infrastructure, and support military operations during heightened tensions. To keep yourself safe and updated, here’s a complete list of Indian cities that are under Blackout or at risk amid the Pakistan attack. 

Why is Blackout Important? 

Blackouts are enforced as a precaution to protect civilians and military operations amid missile and drone attacks from Pakistan. Additionally, the sirens, explosions, and sightings of intercepted drones/missiles have been widely reported in affected areas. Due to the escalated tensions, the educational institutions are closed, and public gatherings, including fireworks, are banned in many districts of India. Also, the residents are urged to stay indoors, switch off all lights, and follow official advisories until further notice in the areas under Blackout.

These measures reflect the seriousness of the current security situation and the coordinated response by authorities to safeguard the lives and vital infrastructure of the nation of billions.

List Of Cities Under Blackout In Jammu And Kashmir: 

Jammu:

Jammu is under a complete blackout after missile and drone attacks from Pakistan, as tweeted by the former DGP of Jammu and Kashmir, Shesh Paul Vaid. Loud explosions and sirens are also reported in the area. Residents are advised to stay indoors. Jammu airport is also on high alert. Places of Srinagar, Udhampur, Samba, Akhnoor, Baramulla, Kupwara, Vaishno Devi and Kishtwar have also reported blackouts. 

Note: All educational institutions in Jammu and Kashmir remain closed, according to the Education Minister Sakina Itoo, and the situation is under continuous review.

List Of Cities Under Blackout In Punjab

Amritsar:  Amritsar also reported a complete blackout, along with a ban on fireworks, as announced by Sakshi Sahni, the deputy commissioner of Amritsar. Explosions and missile debris were also reported in nearby villages. 

Jalandhar: Here, a blackout was enforced as per a senior official, and residents were urged to cooperate. Explosions were also reported in the area, but no damage.

HoshiarpurThe place was under indefinite blackout on May 8, 2025, night, according to senior officials. All external lighting was also banned.

Gurdaspur: A Blackout was enforced from 9 pm to 5 am, May 8, 2025, until further notice by Dalwinderjit Singh, Deputy Commissioner. Military areas are also exempt.  

Tarn Taran:  Blackouts were reported based on real-time alerts. Schools are closed here, as the deputy commissioner of Tarn Taran issued orders.

Pathankot: A blackout started at 8:30 pm, May 8, 2025, as per officials. Air raid warnings were also heard. Reports also stated military bases were targeted; however, no official confirmations were made.

Fazilka: A complete blackout was placed, as per officials; fireworks are also banned.

Bathinda: Explosions reported, no official confirmation. Immediate blackout was also enforced here, according to senior authorities.

Chandigarh: A blackout was enforced along with nearby Mohali (Punjab) and Panchkula (Haryana), according to senior officials.

Mohali, Panchkula: Blackout was established, as per the official, as a precaution due to proximity to Chandigarh and the border.

Note: All educational institutions are closed in Punjab for at least three days in the affected districts, as per the senior authorities. Police leave cancelled.

List Of Cities Under Blackout In Rajasthan

Jaisalmer: A complete blackout was enforced after reported drone interceptions and explosions, as ordered by the district administrator. Here, the border was also sealed.

Barmer: Nightly blackouts from 9 pm to 4 am were ordered by the district administration until further notice. Border security is also heightened in the area.

Bikaner: A blackout as a precaution as part of border security measures was ordered by the district administration.

Sriganganagar: A blackout was enforced, as ordered by the district administration. The border was also sealed by the BSF.

Jodhpur: A blackout as part of the border security protocol was ordered by the district administration.

Phalodi: The place is also under blackout as ordered by the district administration.

List Of Cities Under Blackout In Gujarat And Haryana

Gujarat: A complete blackout for more than 7 hours was enforced in several parts of the border districts of Kutch and Banaskantha in Gujarat on May 8, 2025, night, as a precaution, senior officials confirmed. 

Haryana: In Ambala a complete blackout from 8 pm till 6 am on Friday, May 9, 2025, along with a ban on the use of inverters or generators for outdoor lighting, as ordered by the District Magistrate Ajay Singh Tomer. 

Blackout In Delhi: 

A total blackout was witnessed in Lutyens' Delhi between 8 pm and 8.15 pm on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, as part of the countrywide civil defence drill, as per the New Delhi Municipal Council.

The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has also issued an advisory on May 8, 2025, detailing instructions for citizens to be adopted in case of a blackout.
