Brahmin Genes Controversy: An X (formerly Twitter) post by a Bengaluru-based CEO named Anuradha Tiwari triggered a massive debate in the Indian social media space recently after she posted a picture of herself flexing her tricep and captioned it "Brahmin genes". The post attracted support and backlash in nearly equal proportions. As critics accused her for promoting casteism, Tiwari reinforced her stance in subsequent posts.
"As expected, a mere mention of word 'Brahmin' triggered many inferior beings. Tells a lot about who real casteists are. UCs get nothing from system - no Reservation, no freebies. We earn everything on our own and have every right to be proud of our lineage. So, deal with it," she wrote after her original post went viral.
Tiwari's X timeline reflects her vocal opposition to caste-based reservation. Her pinned post on X reads, "I am general category student. My ancestors have passed me down 0.00 acres land. I live in a rented house. I couldn’t get admission despite scoring 95% but my classmate who scored 60% & comes from well off family gets admission. And you ask me why I have problem with reservation?"
Moreover, as "#BrahminGenes" started trending on X, author Chetan Bhagat reacted to the controversy by saying, "The more caste is brought up, the more the consolidated Hindu vote breaks. Opposition has understood this and playing that game. And yes even that #BrahminGenes trend is splitting the Hindu vote. Don’t know if people realise that."
Responding to the post, Tiwari wrote, "Is hatred against Brahmins uniting Hindus? Is Reservation uniting Hindus? Is the Caste Census uniting Hindus? But when Brahmins decide to take a stand for themselves, suddenly, Hindu unity is in danger."
