Complete list of Jharkhand CM: JMM leader Hemant Soren is slated to take oath as the next Chief Minister of Jharkhand on Thursday, nearly five months after vacating the post before being arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in a money-laundering case. To make way for the JMM Executive President to return as CM, party leaer Champai Soren stepped down from the helm of the state government on Wednesday.
"A few days ago, I was made the Chief Minister and I got the responsibility of the state. After Hemant Soren was back, our alliance took this decision and we chose Hemant Soren as our leader. Now, I have resigned from the post of Chief Minster," Champai Soren told reporters. Hemant Soren, who is presently out on bail, is scheduled to take oath as the CM at 5 pm on Thursday.
Since the formation of the state on 15 November, 2000, Jharkhand has had seven chief ministers over 12 terms. However, only Raghubar Das has served a full term as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand, between December 28, 2014 and December 29, 2019, when the state had a BJP government. In its nearly 24 years of existence, Jharkhand has found itself under the President's rule thrice.
