COVID-19 In India: In June 2025, India has been witnessing an outbreak in COVID-19 cases. Health authorities are closely monitoring the situation, especially in metropolitan areas and some southern states, as new strains NB.1.8.1 and LF.7 have been reported, which the WHO (World Health Organization) has classified as Variants Under Monitoring. While most cases in India are still mild and are being treated under home isolation, there have been a few deaths among people with critical comorbidities. Indian States With The Most COVID-19 Cases:
India has a total of 4,302 active cases as of June 4, 2025, 08:00 IST. Kerala currently leads in the number of active COVID-19 cases, with over 1,373 cases and 9 deaths since January 1st, 2025 according to the data by the Union Health Ministry. Maharashtra follows closely with 510 active cases, and Delhi with 457.
States like Delhi, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Gujarat and Telangana have seen spikes, particularly in cities like Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad. Reportedly, most fresh cases of COVID-19 are mild, with very few requiring hospitalisation, and deaths have largely been among those with pre-existing conditions. Additionally, the Union Health Ministry continues focusing on surveillance and containment, urging citizens nationwide to be cautious and not to panic.

The highest number of active COVID-19 cases is still being reported by Kerala, though all of them are being treated at home and are mild. However, 9 deaths are reported by the southern indian state. While Maharashtra is recording an increase in active cases, with Mumbai reporting more than 510 total cases till June.

Karnataka registered clusters in Bengaluru, with cases among infants and the elderly, leading to advisories for vulnerable populations. Other states like Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, and West Bengal are seeing a subtle rise in cases, with health authorities maintaining vigilance.
India is experiencing a new surge in COVID-19 cases, however, the situation is still manageable with significant efforts. Most of the fresh cases are mild, and the Indian health system is equipped to deal with the number of cases. The authorities are continuing to keep a watchful eye on the COVID-19 spread, particularly in states where the number of active cases is on the rise, and ask the nation of billions to stay vigilant but not at all panicked.
