Mumbai has shown a concerning rise in cases this month. Out of the 213 total cases recorded in the city since January, 207 have been reported in May alone, indicating a significant increase in recent weeks. In contrast, Pune’s municipal health department stated that the seven cases reported on Saturday were mild. Officials noted that symptoms such as low-grade fever, sore throat and fatigue were common and all patients were either recovering at home or under local medical observation.
Across the state, authorities have intensified COVID-19 testing and monitoring. Since January, 7,143 samples have been tested in Maharashtra. From these, 257 individuals have tested positive. Currently, 166 active cases are under observation, and 87 patients have recovered.
A senior official from the state’s public health department said that while most cases are not severe, people with underlying health issues should remain cautious. “We are keeping a close watch and encouraging early testing,” the official stated.
Citizens have been advised not to panic but to continue following basic precautions such as maintaining hygiene and seeking medical attention if symptoms appear. Special care is being recommended for those with comorbidities.
Health officials have assured that while numbers are rising, the state is prepared to manage the situation with increased surveillance and early intervention.
