While fans usually focus on their cricket skills, many are also curious about their personal lives, especially their education. In IPL 2025, captains like MS Dhoni, Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant and others come from different educational backgrounds. Some studied in top colleges, while others left studies early to follow their cricket dreams. 

From business graduates like Pat Cummins to engineering dropout Axar Patel, the range is wide and interesting. 1. MS Dhoni – CSK

The legendary Chennai Super Kings captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, replaced Ruturaj Gaikwad for this season as captain due to his injuries. Ms Dhoni completed his education at Ranchi's DAV Jawahar Vidya Mandir. Later, he attended St. Xavier's College in Ranchi to pursue a Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) degree, but his cricket commitments prevented him from finishing it. He is one of the most successful IPL captains ever, having led CSK to five IPL championships (2010, 2011, 2018, 2021 and 2023).

2. Rishabh Pant – LSG

Leading the Lucknow Super Giants in the 2025 Indian Premier League, Rishabh Pant attended the Indian Public School in Dehradun and earned a B.Com. from Delhi University's Sri Venkateswara College. Pant, a vital member of the Indian T20 team and a former captain of the Delhi Capitals, is renowned for his explosive batting. After suffering an injury from a tragic accident on 30 December 2022, he returned strongly and is currently leading LSG to their first IPL championship.

3. Shreyas Iyer – PBKS

The current captain of the Punjab Kings, Shreyas Iyer, attended Don Bosco High School in Mumbai before earning a B.Com. degree from Podar College in the same city. Iyer is a stylish right-handed batsman who has led the Delhi Capitals to his first-ever IPL final in 2020. In 2025, he joined PBKS as a leader.

4. Ajinkya Rahane – KKR

Leading Kolkata Knight Riders captain Ajinkya Rahane attended SV Joshi High School in Dombivli for his education before graduating from the University of Mumbai with a B.Com. Rahane brings years of international and IPL experience, along with a calm demeanour. He joined CSK's 2023 championship team as well, and he now gives KKR leadership stability.

5. Sanju Samson – RR

The Rajasthan Royals captain, Sanju Samson, attended St. Joseph Higher Secondary School, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Later, he graduated from Mar Ivanios College in Thiruvananthapuram with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature. Sanju is one of the IPL's most fashionable batsmen and has been captaining RR since 2021 and led them to the 2022 IPL final.

6. Pat Cummins – SRH

The Australian speedster Pat Cummins, who is leading Sunrisers Hyderabad, graduated from the University of Technology, Sydney with a Bachelor of Business degree. Cummins, a 2023 ODI World Cup-winning captain and elite bowler, leads SRH with a strong hand. He was one of the most expensive purchases in IPL history in 2024.

7. Rajat Patidar – RCB

Rajat Patidar, captaining Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2025, graduated from Indore. After attending New Digamber Public School, he graduated from Guru Vashistha College in Indore with a degree in commerce. After a spectacular century in the IPL 2022 playoffs, Patidar, a reliable middle-order player, became well-known.

8. Axar Patel – DC

Axar Patel, the captain of Delhi Capitals, did his schooling in Gujarat and enrolled for engineering but dropped out to pursue cricket full-time. He has been a dependable all-rounder for both India and DC. As a senior member, he now takes on the captaincy role to rebuild the DC squad in 2025.

9. Shubman Gill – GT

Leading Gujarat Titans, Shubman Gill attended Manav Mangal Smart School in Mohali upto 10th grade before deciding to devote himself entirely to cricket. A rising star in Indian cricket, he led GT in scoring during their 2023 IPL season and captained the team in 2024. He also has the 2023 IPL Orange Cap.

10. Hardik Pandya – MI

The Mumbai Indians captain, Hardik Pandya, attended MK High School in Baroda until the 9th grade. He dropped out of school early to focus on cricket. Hardik, who is known for his brilliant all-around performances, led the Gujarat Titans to their first IPL championship in 2022. He is now back to lead MI to add more hardware to their collection.
