Manganese is an essential mineral used in steel production and other industrial uses. India's production of manganese is crucial to its industrial economy. Over the years, Odisha has dominated manganese production by a wide margin followed by Maharashtra and Karnataka. List Of Top 10 Largest Manganese Producing States In India:

Odisha

Odisha has the highest number of reserves and the highest production capacity, which makes it the manganese hub of India. The South Indian state is responsible for more than 37% of India's manganese production. The ore is mined from Gondite, Kodurite, and Khondolite deposits, which are found in Sundargarh, Kendujhar, Koraput, and Kalahandi districts.

Karnataka

Karnataka contributes to approximately 13% of manganese production in India. The state’s deposits are rich in high-quality ore and are mainly meant for industrial purposes. Bellary, Chitradurga, Tumkur, and Shimoga districts are some of the key areas of mining production here.

Maharashtra

In Nagpur, Bhandara, and Ratnagiri districts of Maharashtra are the main mining regions. The state is famous for its high-grade manganese ore, which makes Maharashtra a major player in India's steel industry and contributes almost 24% in manganese production.

Madhya Pradesh

Madhya Pradesh's deposits are an extension of Maharashtra's Nagpur-Bhandara belt and Chhindwara districts. The state contributes to about 11% of the production of manganese in the country.

Andhra Pradesh

Srikakulam and Vizianagaram districts are key areas for mining manganese in Andhra Pradesh. Its manganese is largely of low grade but can be upgraded.

Goa

Goa does not impact much of manganese production in the country, however, plays a significant role in India's overall production, especially the South Goa district manganese mining.

Jharkhand

Jharkhand's reserves are not extensive but strategic in location like Singhbhum district. The state only contributes approximately 2%.manganese production in the country.

Rajasthan

Rajasthan reserves are small, not intensively exploited and minimally contribute to the metal production. However, Udaipur district is a major area for manganese production.

Gujarat

Gujarat's contribution is small in comparison with other states. Panchmahals district in Gujarat is a prominent place for manganese.

West Bengal

West Bengal produces very little manganese but still adds to the national production, one key area is Purulia district.

Mumbai And Delhi’s Rank On The List Of Largest Manganese-Producing Indian States:

Mumbai (Maharashtra) makes a great contribution to manganese production in the country, thanks to its location, which is near most of the major manganese-producing districts, like Nagpur and Bhandara. On the other hand, Delhi does not produce manganese due to its lack of mineral reserves.
