1. West Bengal – 4.7 kg per month

The sweetest state in India is West Bengal, which is well-known for its fondness for Mishti Doi, Sandesh and Rasgulla. Throughout the nation, these milk-based treats are well-known and frequently given as gifts during holidays. Bengali sweets are most popular in Kolkata, where there are well-known stores with recognisable recipes. The traditional sweets of other cities, such as Shantiniketan and Krishnanagar, are also highly renowned. 

2. Uttar Pradesh – 3.6 kg per month

Sweets like Peda, Jalebi and Gulab Jamun are popular in Uttar Pradesh. From morning tea to wedding festivities, these candies are a staple of daily life. Varanasi is renowned for its Malaiyyo and Rabri, while Mathura is renowned for its Pedas. Kanpur and Lucknow are also popular sweet spots with historic stores.

 3. Maharashtra – 3.4 kg per month

In Maharashtra, the most popular festive and everyday treats are sweets like Modak, Puran Poli, and Shrikhand. Mumbai provides a variety of regional and fusion desserts, while Pune is renowned for its traditional Maharashtrian sweets. Nagpur is known for its distinctive local mithai shops and orange barfi.

4. Punjab – 3.1 kg per month

Punjab loves rich and creamy sweets such as Pinni, Rabri and Kheer. These sweets are especially enjoyed during winter and harvest festivals. Ludhiana and Amritsar are famous for their desi ghee laddoos and milk sweets, while Patiala is well-known for its large and flavorful halwas.

5. Tamil Nadu – 2.9 kg per month

Mysore Pak, Payasam, and Jangiri are among the sweets with a long history in Tamil Nadu. While Madurai is renowned for its distinctive Jangiris and Halwas, Chennai is the centre of confectionery stores, particularly during Pongal and Diwali. Another well-liked sweet destination is Coimbatore.
