The major reason for the meat consumption in India is urbanisation and especially a growing trend of protein-rich diets. Which Indian State Eats The Most Meat?

Nagaland

Nagaland has the most non-vegetarians across India. Here, meat consumption exceeds 99.8%. Pork, cattle, buffaloes, and poultry dominate the dining tables in this Christian-majority state.

West Bengal

West Bengal is the second on the list with almost 99.3% meat consumers. In this state, fish is the centre of Bengali cuisine with chicken and mutton.

Kerala

Kerala stands out for its love of beef, with 99.1% of its population consuming meat. Still, chicken dominates dining tables alongside beef, mutton and pork.

Andhra Pradesh

Andhra Pradesh records a high rate of meat consumption at 98.25%, influenced by its coastal location. People here mostly eat chicken, followed by mutton and fish.

Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu consists of a significant meat-eating population, which is around 97.65%. Chettinad chicken, mutton and seafood like prawn, fish, mutton balls and shredded chicken are some of the most loved non-vegetarian foods.

Telangana

Telangana follows closely, with over 97.3% of its population consuming meat. Traditional dishes often include chicken, mutton and fish.

Jharkhand

The eastern state, Jharkhand, also has more than 97% meat-eaters. Chicken, mutton and fish are popular in the state.

Odisha

Odish with around 96% of its population consume meat. The South Indian state has a diverse non-veg diet including fish, chicken and mutton.

Tripura

Tipura records over 95% of meat-eaters. The state’s cuisine includes pork, fish, chicken and mutton that reflect its diverse traditions.

Goa

Goa ranks high at 93.8%, where seafood and beef are staples due to Portuguese influences in the states.
