The fertile, well-drained soils of the nation enable year-round farming. On occasion, though, yields have been impacted by unseasonal rains, like those that occurred in Solapur in May 2025. With very few exports, India mostly uses its papayas domestically.
2. Dominican Republic - 12.81 lakh tons
The Dominican Republic is the perfect place to grow papayas because of its rich soils and warm, humid climate. The nation's agricultural economy greatly benefits from exports to North America and Europe, made possible by its advantageous location in the Caribbean.
3. Mexico – 11.39 lakh tons
Over the past ten years, papaya production has nearly doubled due to Mexico's tropical climate and varied soils, particularly in states like Oaxaca and Chiapas. The United States was the main market for exports, which hit a record 203,170 tonnes in 2022.
4. Brazil – 11 lakh tons
Brazil has a strong papaya production because of its fertile soils and consistent rainfall, especially in Espírito Santo and Bahia. The primary market for exports, which increased by 16.2% to 44,000 tonnes in 2024 and brought in $58.1 million, was Europe.

Papaya production is favoured by the subtropical climate and well-drained soils of southern China. Despite high domestic consumption, exports are still small and mostly target nearby nations.
8. Democratic Republic of Congo – 2 lakh tons
The DRC's tropical climate and fertile soils support papaya farming, primarily for local markets. Export activities are limited due to logistical constraints.
9. Peru – 1.7 lakh tons
