To learn more, here is a list of the top ten sustainable economies in 2025, along with India's ranking on the list, according to the Hinrich-IMD Sustainable Trade Index (STI) 2025. The latest World Sustainability Index is measured based on three pillars Economic Pillar, the Societal Pillar and the Environmental Pillar. Let’s check which are the top listers.

1. United Kingdom

The United Kingdom is the number 1 sustainable economy in the world, with the highest STI score of 100. Additionally, the nation stands out with a perfect 100 points in environmental sustainability, 86.45 points in the economic pillar and and societal development score stands at 89.42 for the nation.

2. New Zealand

New Zealand is at number two with an STI score of 97.01, showcasing a high environmental score of 98.95 and a societal score of 92.72 and a sound economic score of 77.26. Australia is well-known for its nature conservation and social well-being efforts, along with balancing natural resource management with equitable growth.

3. Australia

Australia's STI of 93.26 is supported by a 100 in the economic pillar and a high score for society, which is 80.26. However, the environmental score of 79.97 is slightly less; the country’s main focus on sustainability, economic resilience and social well-being, making up for the standout environmental policies.

4. Singapore

Singapore is also thriving on the list with the STI score of 90.01, all thanks to the economic pillar score of 99.51 and a societal score of 86.63. Its environmental score of 66.56 is also improving with each year, with continuous hard work toward building sustainable cities, green infrastructure, and resource efficiency in the country.

5. South Korea

South Korea is in fifth position with an STI score of 87.22. It scores well economically, with the current score of 95.84 and socially, with the current score of 84.47, but indicates scope for improvement in the environmental area, which is 65.93. 6. Hong Kong, SAR

Hong Kong is also one of the largest sustainable economies in the world, with an STI score of 83.79. All thanks to the perfect economic pillar score of 100 and the environmental score of 72.78. 7. Japan

Japan has an STI score of 83.48, accompanied by high environmental performance (91.21) and well-balanced economic and social scores. Canada has bagged an STI score of 80.45, all thanks to its high environmental pillar score of 96.75. However, the nation has showcased low scores in its economic pillar, with a score of 74.4, and a societal pillar score of 59.38.

9. United States

The United States has acquired a score of 79.54 in the STI, with a very high economic score of 94.07 and societal score of 67.71, but a relatively lower environmental pillar score of 66.64. The US has significantly developed economically and socially, with efforts directed towards more strict environmental laws.

10. Taiwan

Taiwan concludes the list of top ten sustainable economies with an STI score of 77.9, showcasing balanced performance in economic growth with a score of 75.23 points, in social reforms with 80.55 points, along with an environmental score of 68.84. All of these statistics showcase the nation's continued efforts in the overall development with significant improvement in environmental sustainability.

India's Rank On The List Of Top 10 Sustainable Economies:

India does not rank on the list of the top 10 sustainable economies in the world in 2025. The nation of millions stands in the 23rd position with the overall STI score of 33.15, comprising scores in the Economic pillar - 51.69, Social pillar - 47.08 and Environmental pillar -18.61. The nation is effectively working towards sustainability in terms of economic growth and social development issues. India is also significantly working towards renewable energy, social welfare policies, and environmental concerns.

The world's best sustainable economies of 2025 are a mix of strong economic systems, social progress, and good environmental management. These countries are global models that will push other nations towards sustainable growth in all three mediums -economically, socially and environmentally for a better future ahead.
