With just a few days left in the inauguration ceremony, the official portraits of US President-elect Donald Trump and his second-in-command JD Vance have been released. Both leaders are dressed in similar blue suits, white collared shirts, and blue ties, but it is Trump's portrait that has grabbed significant online attention.

Social media users have noted the striking resemblance between his portrait and his viral mugshot from 2023, taken when he surrendered at the Fulton County Jail in Atlanta as part of the 2020 election case.

After being released from Fulton County Jail on a USD 200,000 bond, Trump shared his mugshot on X (formerly Twitter), accompanied by the bold caption "NEVER SURRENDER!". This marked his return to the social media platform.

Posting a comparison image of Trump’s inauguration portrait and his mugshot, Conservative commentator and YouTuber Benny Johnson wrote, "Trump really went with the mugshot aesthetic for the new Presidential Portrait. Trump chose violence.”

His tweet quickly gained momentum, with many of Trump's supporters expressing strong approval. One of the users wrote, "Trump chose the photo that solidified his base! When they started their lawfare, we all knew what it was, and he’s thanking us for seeing him through! This isn’t violence, this is strength! You are embarrassing, Benny!"
