Alec Baldwin faces manslaughter charges related to the fatal shooting incident that occurred on the set of his film 'Rust' in 2021, as per a court document filed on Friday. In his capacity as both an actor and a producer on the film, Baldwin was handling a Colt .45 during rehearsals for the low-budget Western in New Mexico when it accidentally fired a live round. This tragic incident resulted in the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injuries to director Joel Souza.

Despite the October 2021 shooting incident on the set of "Rust," Alec Baldwin has consistently denied any responsibility. He maintains that he did not pull the trigger on the gun, which, according to him, should have been loaded with a dummy round.

The recent development on Friday represents the latest effort to hold someone accountable for the tragic incident that sent shockwaves through Hollywood, prompting calls for stricter regulations regarding firearms on movie sets. Earlier manslaughter charges against Alec Baldwin were dropped in April of the previous year. Prosecutors cited "new facts" as the reason for the dismissal, necessitating additional investigation and forensic analysis.

In October, prosecutors announced the convening of a grand jury, a group of citizens tasked with assessing evidence and determining whether there is a case to answer. "We look forward to our day in court," stated Baldwin's attorneys Luke Nikas and Alex Spiro in response to the recent charges.

If convicted of the new charge, Baldwin reportedly faces up to 18 months in jail.

Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the film's armorer responsible for supplying and maintaining weapons, is scheduled to go on trial next month on charges of involuntary manslaughter and tampering with evidence. Prosecutors argue that as the person who loaded the gun, she bears culpability in the incident.

Prosecutors contend that as the individual responsible for loading the gun, the film's armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, holds culpability. However, she denies the charges, and there has been no clarification on how live rounds ended up on the movie set.
