Ariana Grande COVID-19 News: Ariana Grande has confirmed that she has tested positive for Covid-19 while promoting her upcoming film Wicked: For Good. The singer and actor shared the news on Instagram, posting a photo from her appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on 18th November. Her diagnosis comes at a crucial stage in the film’s press tour, which is now entering its final phase. As a result, Ariana will miss several promotional events, including her scheduled appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show.

Ariana Grande confirmed Covid-19 positive on Instagram with the caption, “Moments before Covid.” Variety also reported that she has pulled out of upcoming Q&A sessions for the film. Meanwhile, her co-star Cynthia Erivo will continue to attend events as planned. This setback follows a difficult few days for the film’s promotion. Ariana and Cynthia Erivo both missed almost all press interviews at the New York City premiere on 17th November, with Universal Pictures confirming that Erivo had lost her voice and was ‘not feeling well’. Although the pair managed to walk the red carpet and appear briefly on a livestream, Ariana told viewers that she was ‘not letting [Erivo] speak’ as Erivo struggled with a hoarse voice. The situation echoes issues from 2024, when both actors separately caught Covid-19 shortly before filming important scenes for the first Wicked movie. Ariana had previously revealed that they filmed some of the most important works of the whole movie while recovering from the virus.

Meanwhile, Ariana’s diagnosis adds to a series of challenges faced during the promotional tour. Earlier this month, she missed the Sao Paulo premiere on 4th November due to a safety issue with her plane. A week later, at the Singapore premiere on 13th November, a 26-year-old Australian man named Johnson Wen known online as ‘Pyjama Man’ rushed towards her on the red carpet and grabbed her. He later pleaded guilty to causing a public nuisance and received a nine-day prison sentence. These disruptions have made the global press tour particularly tense for the star, who is set to reprise her role as Glinda, the Good Witch.

Despite these challenges, promotions for Wicked: For Good continue. The film, directed by Jon M. Chu, is the second instalment in Universal’s adaptation of the classic Broadway musical and novel. Ariana stars as Glinda, while Cynthia Erivo plays Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West. In this sequel, Elphaba is forced into exile and continues her fight to expose The Wizard, played by Jeff Goldblum. With the film scheduled for release on 21st November, fans are hoping Ariana recovers quickly and rejoins promotions soon.
