Eddington is a dark comedy featuring Pedro Pascal and Joaquin Phoenix in the lead. Directed by Ari Aster, it is set against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic in a small New Mexican town. It explores the theme of freedom, isolation and political identity with a touch of satire. The movie follows Sheriff Joe Cross (Joaquin Phoenix), a conspiracy-obsessed lawman who impulsively challenges the sitting mayor, Ted Garcia (Pedro Pascal), in a heated and increasingly unhinged mayoral race.
Pedro Pascal recently talked about his latest release and shared how he was faced with a challenge while shooting for Eddington. During a recent interview with Men’s Health, Pedro revealed that there was a scene which required him to slap his co-star Joaquin, and he was not comfortable with it. However, Joaquin convinced Pedro to go for it without giving a second thought, as the scene needed to look real.
Pedro Pascal said that the confrontation scene was really difficult to shoot as he was reluctant to slap the Joker actor. “I was not comfortable with slapping Joaquin. I even tried to take a stance and spoke with the stunt coordinator, and took the position that I am not comfortable with a slap,” he said.

Further, The Fantastic Four actor explained that Joaquin was really convincing as he asked him to just go for the shot. “Then we got to shooting it, and I tried to fake it, and Joaquin said, ‘You’ve got to do it. And it was a surreally fast exchange in between takes, of ‘that didn’t work’, Joaquin saying ‘you’ve got to do it’, and me saying ‘I do?’, and he said ‘yes’. And we did it, and we went right into ‘action’, and I smacked the s*** out of him,” he said.
The actor also added that it was harder for him than it was for Joaquin. He expressed that it's not good to hit somebody, and it doesn't feel good to him. He admitted that he might like breaking a chair, but he doesn’t enjoy hitting a person. Joaquin Phoenix was also a part of the interview, and he joked that Pedro loved hitting him.
