James Gunn’s new Superman film is breaking records at the box office and has been lauded for its powerful storyline and performances by fans and critics alike across the world. David Corenswet, who dons the iconic cape, has been widely applauded for his role, alongside Rachel Brosnahan, who plays Lois Lane, his love interest in the movie. The film earned Rs 7 crore on its opening day at the box office. It has witnessed an impressive collection since its release in theatres on July 11. The superhero movie's strong weekend turnout and occupancy rates, especially due to packed evening shows in major cities, have seemingly been affected by strong word-of-mouth. Overwhelmed with the response, director James Gunn has expressed his gratitude amid the film's success.
James Gunn took to his official Instagram thread on Sunday and celebrated Superman's impressive achievement, which is his second biggest opening after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
He wrote, "I'm incredibly grateful for your enthusiasm and kind words over the past few days. We’ve had a lot of ‘Super’ in Superman over the years, and I’m happy to have made a movie that focuses on the ‘man’ part of the equation — a kind person always looking out for those in need."

The film, which was released on July 11, had the third-biggest domestic opening of the year, earning USD 122 million over the weekend. This largest debut comes after A Minecraft Movie's earning of USD162 million and Lilo & Stitch stands at USD 146 million. So far, Superman has earned USD 217 million worldwide, as per a Variety report.
"That that resonates so powerfully with so many people across the world is in itself a hopeful testament to the kindness and quality of human beings. Thank you," Gunn added.
