Ahreum Fraud Case: On 15th April, Judge Lee Nuri of the Ansan Branch of the Suwon District Court officially found Lee Ahreum guilty in her fraud case. However, her sentence was reduced after the court considered her admission of guilt, partial repayments, and settlements with victims. According to a News1 report on 13th August, the Suwon District Court’s Criminal Division 5-1 overturned the original verdict. Ahreum was given four months in prison, suspended for one year. In her first trial, she had been sentenced to six months in prison with two years of probation.
Kpop idol Ahreum’s boyfriend, who was indicted and detained on related fraud charges, also received a lighter sentence. His prison term was reduced from 18 months to 14 months. Explaining the decision, the court said, “We took into account that Ahreum admitted to her crimes, reached settlements with two victims who no longer wished to pursue punishment, and repaid part of the defrauded amount.” While recognising the seriousness of the crimes, the court added that the first sentence “was too severe in light of these mitigating factors.”
Former T-ara member Ahreum has spoken out about the resurfaced ‘T-ara bullying controversy’ involving Hwayoung, which was reignited through her boyfriend, Mr. A.

About Kpop Idol Ahreum Case
Kpop idol Ahreum was accused of defrauding fans and acquaintances starting in late 2023. Victims reported the matter to the police, and the case was later sent to prosecutors, leading to her indictment. The total amount she was accused of taking was around 37 million KRW (approximately 27,000 USD). Although she initially denied the allegations, Ahreum later admitted that she had acted alone. Her boyfriend was separately indicted for his own role in the fraud.
