Harvard Rolls Out New 'Taylor Swift' Course: Taylor Swift is here to rule the world of academia after shattering global records with her soul-touching and relatable music in the arts and entertainment industry. The World’s leading Universities have announced new courses on pop culture that would feature Swift and her global influence. Both Harvard University and the University of Florida (UF) have announced their plans to introduce new courses on Swift in 2024.

At Harvard, Professor Stephanie Burt, who is a poet and critic, will be teaching a course titled 'Taylor Swift and Her World'. On the other hand, at UF, Melina Jimenez will be teaching a course on 'Musical Storytelling with Taylor Swift and Other Iconic Female Artists'. The UF course will delve into Swift's discography and her timeless songwriting, while also exploring the works of legendary artists such as Aretha Franklin, Billie Holiday, and Dolly Parton.

Bored of just reading Shakespeare or Milton in your Humanities curriculum at college? Here are other universities offering courses on Taylor Swift and her impact on the culture through her songs and lyrics. 

  1. University of Texas at Austin rolled out a Liberal Arts Honours program called The Taylor Swift Songbook in 2022.

  2. Arizona State University rolled out a course in Psychology called ‘Psychology of Taylor Swift – Advanced Topics of Social Psychology’ that is to be taught by a research scholar named Alexandra Wormley

  3. Stanford University offered a course called All Too Well (Ten Week Version) and also announced a course ‘The Last Great American Songwriter: Storytelling with Taylor Swift Through the Eras’ in 2023

  4. Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music at New York University launched its first course on Swift in 2022 that focused on her successful musical career and entrepreneurial abilities as a  businesswoman. 

  5. Ghent University in Belgium announced a literature course on Swift’s music called ‘Literature: Taylor’s Version’

  6. Berklee College of Music in Boston has now given its students the liberty to study her songs to understand her songwriting process. 

For the unversed, the American popstar has shattered records globally and is an inspiration for her devoted fans known as ‘Swifties’ which has caused universities to add her as a part of their curriculum.

Taylor Swift's Eras Tour movie has grossed $250 million worldwide, making it the 19th most successful movie of 2023 and the second highest-grossing concert movie ever. Taylor Swift's latest album, 1989 (Taylor's Version), which is a re-recording of her 1989 album, became the top-selling album in America for 2023 in less than a week after its release on October 27. 1989 (Taylor’s Version) has surpassed the first-week sales of the original 1989 album (2014) making it the first to break the record of the original.
