The Conjuring Franchise Is Ending: After decades of haunting audiences with spine-chilling stories inspired by the real-life paranormal investigations of Ed and Lorraine Warren, the hit franchise The Conjuring is coming to an end. It will conclude with the final instalment, The Conjuring: Last Rites, which is set to premiere on September 5. Ahead of the film's release, director Michael Chaves revealed why he and the team felt it was the right time to bring the series to a close, stating they don't want the franchise to run into the ground.

The Conjuring Franchise Is Coming To An End

Director Michael Chaves, who returns to helm the final chapter of The Conjuring: Last Rites, opened up about the decision behind wrapping up the franchise. In an interview with SFX magazine, he shared, “I love working with everyone involved but there was a shares sense that it was time to end on a high. You want to stop at the peak. You don’t want to be the one who runs a franchise into the ground. This was a rare opportunity to choose when and how to tell that final chapter."

Michael Chaves, who directed The Curse of La Llorona (2019) and The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, revealed how he wanted to bring back the Conjuring experience and wanted to end on a note that was memorable. “I speak as someone who really loves the series and is fortunate enough to be a part of it, but especially as someone who completely fell in love with the first film. I really wanted to bring back that big Conjuring experience: that back-to-basics haunted house movie. To go out in that style," he said.

All About The Conjuring Universe

The horror franchise, which centres on a series of supernatural horror films, consists of three movies in the main series: The Conjuring in 2013, The Conjuring 2 in 2016 and The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It in 2021. It also includes prequels such as Annabelle (2014) and Annabelle: Creation (2017). Annabelle Comes Home was released in 2019. The Nun, a spiritual prequel to The Conjuring 2, was followed by The Nun 2 in 2023. All eight films in The Conjuring universe are available to stream online on platforms such as Netflix, Max and Prime Video. Viewers can catch up ahead of the release of The Conjuring: Last Rites in theatres on September 5.
