Abby Anderson (Kaitlyn Dever) murders Joel in the presence of a defenseless Ellie. The scene is as cruel as it is heartbreaking, just like in the game.

Joel saved Abby (Kaitlyn Dever) from a plague of sick people in Episode 2: Through the Valley. However, Abby is seeking retribution because she is the daughter of the doctor Joel killed in the season one finale. She tricks him into falling into a trap, where she shoots him in the leg before viciously beating him with a golf club. Ellie follows Joel to the location where he is being held captive, but she is also taken prisoner and must witness Abby strike Joel with the fatal blow, murdering him.
