The Last of Us Season 3 Renewed: The highly anticipated second season of HBO's critically acclaimed post-apocalyptic drama series The Last of Us, starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, is set to premiere on April 13. The second season will not be the last one. Just days before its release, HBO announced the renewal of the Emmy-winning drama series for a third season. This popular series is based on the video game franchise developed by Naughty Dog with the same name.

The Last of Us Season 3 Announced

On April 9, Max announced the next installment, The Last of Us Season 3, with a special title slate clip on its official X handle. Along with the post, they wrote, "It can’t be for nothing. Season 3 is coming. #TheLastOfUs." More details about the release date, cast, plot, and other information about the new chapter are yet to be revealed by the makers. Fans quickly flooded the comments section. One user wrote, "Can’t wait to watch!" Another user commented, "???? Based on WHAT?" and another read, "We got Season 3 of The Last of Us."

The show's creators, Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, previously told Deadline that they were aiming for four total seasons to tell the story laid out across two video games. Talking about season 3, Francesca Orsi, Executive Vice President of HBO Programming and Head of HBO Drama Series and Films, said in a statement, “Craig, Neil, Carolyn, and the entire executive producer team, cast, and crew have delivered a masterful follow-up, and we’re thrilled to carry the power of Craig and Neil’s storytelling into what we know will be an equally moving and extraordinary third season.”

About The Last of Us

The show takes place 20 years after modern civilization has been destroyed. Joel, played by Pedro Pascal, is a hardened survivor hired to smuggle Ellie (Bella Ramsey), a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What appears to be a small task turns into a brutal and heartbreaking journey. The Last of Us season 2 will jump to five years after the events of the first season. A grown-up Joel and Ellie are seen facing conflict with each other and a world that’s even more dangerous and unpredictable than the one they left behind.

Besides Pascal and Ramsey, season 2 will feature returning cast members Gabriel Luna and Rutina Wesley. Newcomers joining the cast include Kaitlyn Dever, Isabela Merced, Young Mazino, Ariela Barer, Tati Gabrielle, Spencer Lord, Danny Ramirez, and Jeffrey Wright.
