The Last of Us Season 3 Update: After leaving fans intrigued with the ending of The Last of Us Season 2, HBO is set to move forward with Season 3. Interestingly, the new season will focus on the character Abby, played by Kaitlyn Dever. Abby is the one who murdered Joel, portrayed by Pedro Pascal, in Season 2. The season finale sparked widespread discussion and left viewers wondering whether there would be a third season. Season 3 marks a pivotal narrative shift, transitioning the focus from Bella Ramsey's character, Ellie, to Abby’s storyline, a significant change in perspective. Let’s take a look at what the show’s co-creators, Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, have said about Season 3.
The Last Of Us Season 3 To Focus On Abby
Kaitlyn Dever’s character in Season 2 left everyone intrigued, which led to the decision to make her the central focus of the upcoming story in The Last of Us Season 3.
During the celebration of the success of the second season of The Last of Us at an Emmys FYC event on Tuesday, Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann treated fans with details of what they can expect from the new season. This update has created excitement.
Mazin reflected on the irony of crafting intricate sets, only to destroy them, noting, "We tend to light things on fire, smash them, tear them down, as per The Hollywood Reporter. This approach might change in season three, he hinted.

Druckmann described the upcoming season as "more of a water season than a fire season," with Mazin adding, "It's a wetter season than a hotter one," hinting at a shift in tone and visuals.
Druckmann was joined by an impressive lineup including actors Bella Ramsey, Isabela Merced, Gabriel Luna, and Young Mazino in person, while Kaitlyn Dever participated remotely from Australia, adding her insights to the discussion.
Druckmann shared his experience of being involved in multiple unsuccessful attempts to adapt his acclaimed video game into other formats, highlighting the challenges of bringing the game to life in a new way. He ended up giving a spoiler.
He stated, “I think it was good to go on that journey to end up at HBO, to end up at a place that leaned into those controversial decisions, I guess. But the decisions are just what the story required, and even now, it’s like I can’t believe that they let us structure the series in this way. Meaning, like, we just ended season two, and season three is going to be starring — spoiler alert — Kaitlyn,"
The conversation took a humorous turn when Dever exclaimed, "What?" in response to something, prompting McElhenney to jokingly ask, "Had you closed your deal yet? You just got a ton of leverage," playfully teasing her about her situation.

The early demise of Joel Miller in the second season sparked controversy, according to Druckmann, the narrative required this bold move, making it a necessary sacrifice for the story's progression, as quoted by The Hollywood Reporter.
On the controversial ending of season 2, Mazin shared “I think plot armour is a real problem. In a show where we try and keep things grounded, sometimes the people we can’t imagine losing do die. Because this is not a show about revenge but about grief.”
The controversy surrounding Abby seems to have finally ended with this spoiler.
