The Ridgefield town in the US state of Connecticut has reportedly witnessed its first murder in over 20 years after a 31-year-old man allegedly killed his father, removed his organs and left them out of his body. The man later surrendered himself to the police. According to a report by the New York Post, police authorities received a call around 1 am (10:30 am IST) from a person who claimed to have hurt his father at a residence in Ridgefield on Saturday last week.

According to the police, the responding officers met the accused, identified as Steven James Uricchio, 31, who was outside the house with his hands in the air and wearing a dark blue shirt with boxer shorts. The police instructed Uricchio, who was sweating heavily and appeared to have blood on his hands, to approach them with his arms outstretched.

According to the report, Uricchio confessed to the officers that he had murdered his father, describing the act as “really, really badly." Inside the house, police discovered blood stains on the stairs and walls, along with a bloodied fillet knife. Marc Uricchio, 83, the father, was found dead in his bedroom, severely mutilated, with some internal organs exposed.

Steve James Uricchio was taken into custody by the police. Later, after complaining of a stomach ache, he was taken to the Danbury hospital. At the hospital, Uricchio informed doctors that he regularly consumes cannabis and has not taken prescribed medication in a month or two.

Afterwards, Uricchio was taken back into custody and placed on suicide watch at Ridgefield police headquarters.  Uricchio is scheduled to return to court on September 4 and is currently being held on USD 1.5 million (Rs 12.41 crore) bail.

According to Police Captain Jeffrey Raines, the murder was Ridgefield’s first since 2003. "A deadly incident such as this shakes the town up. This is a very safe community," Raines said, as quoted by the Newstimes.
