A hateful note to a specially-abled waiter at a restaurant cost a real estate agent her job. A real estate company fired its agent, Stephanie Lovins, after she left a cruel message to a waiter with disability at a Mexican restaurant, saying that she hoped the Trump administration would deport the waiter.
In the signature line of the receipt at a restaurant at Cazuelas Mexican Cantina in Columbus, Ohio, the real estate agent, referring to Trump’s policy on immigration, wrote, “I hope Trump deports you." Further, in the tip section of the bill, she wrote, “Zero. You suck."
Lovins left the note for specially-abled waiter Ricardo, who is a US citizen, and served the agent on March 2. One of the employees found the receipt at the table after she left and shared the picture of the hateful message online, prompting outcry and calls for her termination. Lovins was upset about the restaurant’s ‘one coupon per table’ rule.
Real Estate Agent Denies Involvement, Claims Profile Hacked
After learning about the incident going viral and public demands for her termination, Century 21 employee Stephanie Lovins denied her involvement in the matter and said that the incident was a case of 'profile hacking' as her credit card had been ‘lost/stolen’.
In a series of social media posts, Lovins claimed that she had lost her credit card and someone attempted to use it. “Thank you for all the recent notifications of scammers and profile hackers! I recently discovered a lost/missing credit card and an attempted use/purchase. I appreciate your patience while I manage the situation. Have a great day," the real estate agent wrote in a LinkedIn post.
Century 21 Fires Employee
Although Lovins denied her engagement in the matter, CCTV footage revealed her presence in the restaurant, leading to her termination from Century 21.
Replying to a Facebook post, Century 21 said that the company was grateful to social media for bringing the incident to their attention and that they do not ‘condone’ acts of discrimination.
In an official statement, the company added: “We are aware of the situation with the agent in question. Hate has no place within the CENTURY 21 brand, and we are taking this very seriously. After investigating the situation and connecting with the respective broker, as all companies affiliated with the CENTURY 21 brand are independently owned and operated, we can confirm that this agent is no longer affiliated with the brand."
