Former US President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama have publicly addressed months-long rumours about their marriage in a candid, heartfelt, and humorous exchange on a recent podcast episode. Appearing together on IMO with Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson, hosted by Michelle and her brother Craig Robinson, the Obamas finally tackled the speculation head-on — and with signature charm.

“It was touch and go for a while… she took me back!” Barack joked, drawing laughter from both his wife and brother-in-law. Michelle followed with a knowing smile, “It’s my husband, y’all.” Craig played along, quipping, “It’s so nice to have you both in the same room together,” to which Michelle replied, “I know, because when we aren’t, folks think we’re divorced.”

This marks the first time the Obamas have directly addressed the persistent divorce chatter, which escalated earlier this year after Michelle Obama notably skipped former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral and did not attend President Donald Trump’s second inauguration. The couple’s rare appearances together in public and on social media had fueled speculation. On the podcast, Craig Robinson recounted how deeply the rumours have spread — recalling a moment at the airport when a stranger approached him and anxiously asked, “What did he \[Barack] do?” Barack admitted he tends to be unaware of such gossip.

“These are the kinds of things I just miss. I don’t even know this stuff is going on. Then somebody mentions it and I’m like, what are you talking about?” he said. Michelle, however, offered a more heartfelt and grounded perspective. “There hasn’t been a single moment in our marriage when I thought about giving up on my man,” she said. “We’ve been through tough times, but we’ve also had a lot of fun and some amazing adventures. I’ve become a better person because of the man I married.”
