Brown University Shooting: At least two people were reportedly killed and eight others were left severely injured on Saturday after a man opened fire at Brown University, United States. The incident unfolded when a man dressed in black opened fire in the engineering building during the final exams. The university has described the incident as an "active shooter" situation, with no suspects in police custody. It has urged the student and staff members to take shelter and not panic, adding that the police are actively searching for the assailant. The university stated that it was coordinating with the authorities, and a medical team was present at the site to assist the injured.
How Did The Incident Unfold?
The incident allegedly took place near the university's School of Engineering and Physics department. As per the university's website, the building has dozens of classrooms and offices. While the university initially informed that the assailant had been taken under custody, it later clarified that the authorities were still searching for the suspect.

“Lock doors, silence phones and stay hidden until further notice. Remember: RUN, if you are in the affected location, evacuate safely if you can; HIDE, if evacuation is not possible, take cover; FIGHT, as a last resort, take action to protect yourself,” the university said through its emergency notification system. The university stated that it was cooperating with the law enforcement agencies available at the site.
Kristy DosReis, the chief public information officer for the city of Providence, has stated that an investigation has been launched, further urging the people to take shelter, reported AP. In a brief remark at the White House, US President Donald Trump said, "All we can do right now is pray for the victims." "I have been briefed on the shooting that took place at Brown University in Rhode Island. The FBI is on the scene," Trump stated in a post on Truth Social.
