Charlie Kirk Assassination: Investigators in Utah have recovered the high-powered rifle used in the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, FBI official Robert Bohls confirmed on Thursday. The weapon was found in a wooded area where the suspect had fled, marking a major development in the ongoing probe.

During a press briefing, Bohls said the FBI has obtained images of the suspect. Authorities are urging the public to provide any information that could help identify and locate the gunman. Bohls emphasised that the community is not considered at risk, but public assistance is crucial in tracking down the individual.

Officials confirmed that the FBI is examining footprints and other imprints left at the scene. The recovered rifle will be analysed in an FBI laboratory to gather additional evidence. Investigators are reviewing every lead, including digital records and physical traces, to ensure a thorough investigation.

Security And Shooter Profile

US Army Sergeant Nicholas Ranstad described the attack as “a buffet for someone who wanted to kill someone,” noting that security at the location was minimal. Ranstad suggested the shooter may be an “internet shooter,” not a trained sniper or soldier, implying limited professional expertise.

Utah Public Safety Commissioner Beau Mason said the suspect appears to be of college age and blended in well on the campus, making identification more challenging. “We have good video footage of this individual,” officials said, though they are not releasing it at this time.

Bohls described Kirk’s killing as a “targeted event” and reassured the public that the threat is isolated. “We have recovered what we believe is the weapon that was used in yesterday’s shooting. It is a high-powered, bolt-action rifle,” Bohls said. “We’re doing everything we can to find him, and we’re not sure how far he has gone yet, but we will do our best.”

Tributes And Honours

In a separate announcement, former US President Donald Trump revealed that he will posthumously award Charlie Kirk the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Trump described the honour as recognition of Kirk’s contributions and lasting legacy as a conservative activist.
