Epstein Case: Celebrated author Stephen King, known for his outspoken political commentary, has stirred controversy on social media after making a cryptic and sarcastic remark about the alleged Jeffrey Epsteinclient list. The post, made on X (formerly Twitter), sparked intense backlash from both critics and longtime fans.

“The Epstein client list is real. So is the Tooth Fairy and Santa Claus,King wrote on Tuesday, implying skepticism about the existence of any such list. The tweet quickly went viral, triggering confusion, outrage, and speculation across the political spectrum.

Many were baffled by King’s tone, particularly given his consistent and public criticism of former President Donald Trump.C’mon dude. Clearly Epstein had clients who could be compiled into a list, one user replied. Another posted,I did not expect this take from you. Some users went so far as to accuse King of downplaying the severity of Epstein’s crimes or, in a few extreme cases, insinuated he might be deflecting.

Critics pointed out that King’s tweet appeared to align—intentionally or not—with Trump’s recent reversal on releasing Epstein-related files. During his 2024 presidential campaign, Trump had pledged to declassify all Epstein case documents. However, the Department of Justice (DOJ) has since walked back that promise, now stating that the documents will not be made public. Former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi, once an advocate for the release of Epstein documents, has also claimed the matter is now closed.

Supporters of transparency across party lines have expressed disappointment over the DOJ’s decision, reigniting conspiracy theories and speculation about powerful individuals with ties to Epstein. While many Americans believe there exists a hidden list of elites involved in Epstein’s trafficking network, the DOJ insists that no such definitive list is available for release.

In the wake of the backlash, King has not issued a clarification or follow-up to his tweet. Some users have attempted to interpret his remark as a critique of how the so-called list has been politicized rather than a denial of Epstein’s crimes.Maybe he's saying the list never existed and Trump just used the idea of it to win votes, one user speculated.
