A former St. Louis television news anchor was arrested in Wichita, Kansas, after she allegedly stabbed her 80-year-old mother to death on Halloween morning. Authorities have identified the suspect as 47-year-old Angelynn “Angie” Mock. She was booked into Sedgwick County Jail on a charge of first-degree murder. Mock is currently being held on a USD 1 million bond.
According to the Wichita Police Department, officers were sent to an address in the 1500 block of East Crowley at about 7:50 am local time on Friday, October 31. Police answered a call about a “cutting” incident and arrived to discover Mock standing outside the residence with obvious injuries, which involved cuts on her hands.
Inside the home, officers discovered 80-year-old Anita Avers, Mock’s mother, unresponsive in her bed with multiple stab wounds. Avers was transported to a local hospital but succumbed to her injuries roughly 30 minutes later.
Suspect Claimed She Acted ‘To Save Herself’
Local media reports, citing emergency dispatch audio, suggest that a woman called 911 claiming she had “stabbed her mother to save herself.” Witness accounts indicate Mock emerged from the house covered in blood and asked a neighbor to contact authorities.
From TV Newsroom To Tech Sales
According to her LinkedIn profile, Mock previously worked as a television anchor and reporter, including a stint as a morning anchor with KTVI (Fox 2) in St. Louis between 2011 and 2015. She also held roles in Oklahoma City and other markets.
After leaving broadcasting, she transitioned into sales and data-management, and at the time of her arrest was reportedly employed by a data-management software company.
Police say Mock received treatment at a nearby hospital for her hand injuries before being transferred into custody. Court records confirm she faces a charge of first-degree murder. The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office lists her bond at USD 1 million.
Authorities are interviewing neighbors and reviewing dispatch communications to determine what led to the violent confrontation. Neighbors expressed disbelief, describing Avers as quiet and reserved.
