GTA 6 Delayed: In a major setback for video game lovers, the most anticipated adventurous game which was scheduled to be released this year has been delayed until mid-2026, according to the statement released by the Rockstar Games. The Grand Theft Auto VI, the highly awaited next chapter in the iconic series, will not be released until May 26, 2026. Originally slated for a late 2025 release, the delay was revealed by Rockstar Games, the Take-Two studio behind the GTA franchise, on Friday. The fans, who are eagerly waiting for the game, expressed frustration over the delay. They took to social media to share the "pain".

"We are very sorry that this is later than you expected. With every game we have released, the goal has always been to try and exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception. We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve," Rockstar said in a statement. 

"The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has been truly humbling for our entire team. We want to thank you for your support and your patience as we work to finish the game," it added.

Grand Theft Auto VI Delayed to 2026, but Take-Two Promises a Blockbuster Worth the Wait

The postponement of Grand Theft Auto VI to May 2026 will dent Take-Two Interactive's near-term financials, as the game was poised to supercharge profits. However, Take-Two reassured investors on Friday, affirming its forecast for record-breaking Net Bookings in Fiscal 2026 and 2027, with sequential growth expected. The delay places GTA VI in Take-Two’s fiscal 2027.

"We stand firmly behind Rockstar Games’ decision to take extra time to perfect their vision for Grand Theft Auto VI, which is set to deliver a revolutionary, blockbuster experience that will blow fans away," said Strauss Zelnick, Take-Two’s chairman and CEO. "While we recognize the global excitement for GTA VI and the weight of shifting release dates, our commitment to excellence is unwavering. With our robust pipeline of titles, we are poised for multi-year growth and increased shareholder value."

Details on GTA VI remain under wraps, but the game will unfold in and around Vice City, the GTAuniverse’s vibrant take on Miami, Florida. Following Grand Theft Auto V’s 2013 debut and GTA IV in 2008, the franchise’s lengthy development cycles reflect its cinematic ambition and open-world depth, designed to captivate players worldwide.
