A 24-year-old Indian woman who recently came to the United States for a planned arranged marriage has gone missing, local authorities reported on Thursday. Identified as Simran Simran, the woman arrived in New Jersey on June 20 and was last observed in security footage sitting outside the Lindenwold area, checking her phone. Police report that she did not appear to be in any visible distress at the time.

Investigators revealed that Ms Simran has no known relatives in the United States and does not speak English, making it difficult to track her location. Her only communication is an international mobile phone that operates solely through Wi-Fi. Police stated that attempts to contact relatives in India have been unsuccessful so far. “At this time, there are no known family members in India to contact to obtain information on her possible whereabouts,” the Lindenwold Police Department said in a statement, according to local reports.

Officials are probing whether the marriage arrangement was genuine or a possible pretext for free travel to the US, local media, including the New York Post, reported. Simran went missing on June 25, five days following her arrival. The police have asked the public to report any information. She is five feet four inches tall, weighing approximately 68 kilograms, and has a small scar on the left side of her forehead. She was dressed in gray sweatpants, a white T-shirt, black flip-flops, and small diamond earrings when she disappeared. Anyone with information has been asked to contact Lindenwold Police Detective Joe Tomasetti immediately.
