US Vice-President JD Vance has strongly condemned racist and personal attacks against his wife, Usha Vance, saying he has zero tolerance for such remarks regardless of who makes them. In an exclusive interview with UnHerd, Vance addressed comments by far-right podcaster Nick Fuentes and former White House press secretary Jen Psaki, describing his stance as his “official policy” as vice-president.

“Let me be clear. Anyone who attacks my wife, whether their name is Jen Psaki or Nick Fuentes, can eat s**t,” Vance said, underlining his refusal to tolerate attacks on his family.

Racist Slurs By Nick Fuentes Spark Backlash

Nick Fuentes, a controversial right-wing podcaster, has previously made multiple racist comments targeting Usha Vance and the couple’s children because of their Indian ethnicity. According to ABC News, Fuentes recently used a racial slur to refer to the second lady, triggering condemnation from Republicans and conservatives alike.

Fuentes has also described JD Vance as a “race traitor” for marrying someone who is not white, remarks that have drawn widespread criticism across the political spectrum.

Vivek Ramaswamy Condemns Personal Attacks

Former presidential candidate and Ohio gubernatorial hopeful Vivek Ramaswamy was among those who criticised Fuentes’ remarks. Speaking at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest, Ramaswamy said that attacking Usha Vance on racial grounds was unacceptable.

“If you call Usha Vance, the second lady of the United States of America, a ‘je*t,’ you have no place in the future of the conservative movement,” Ramaswamy said, adding that targeting anyone because of race or religion was “disgusting.”

Jen Psaki’s ‘Rescue’ Comment Draws Criticism

Vance also addressed comments made by former White House press secretary Jen Psaki in October. During her podcast I’ve Had It and on her MSNOW show, Psaki suggested that Usha Vance might need to be “rescued” from her husband.

“I always wonder what’s going on in the mind of his wife. Like, are you OK? Please blink four times. Come over here, we’ll save you,” Psaki said at the time, remarks that were widely criticised as patronising. 

Usha Vance, an American born to Indian immigrant parents, is a former lawyer who clerked for Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Brett Kavanaugh. She and JD Vance married in 2014 and have three children.

During the interview, JD Vance also took a strong stand against antisemitism and ethnic hatred. “Antisemitism, and all forms of ethnic hatred, have no place in the conservative movement,” he said, reiterating that attacks based on race, religion or ethnicity are unacceptable.
