Tensions continue to mount in the final stretch of the US presidential election. In Michigan, a crucial battleground state, significant segments of traditionally Democratic voters including the large Arab community, Black men, and young voters have expressed growing discontent with the party, particularly regarding Israel’s actions in Gaza.
Trump narrowly won Michigan's suburbs in 2020 with 51 per cent of the vote, but recent polls indicate Vice President Harris now holds a double-digit lead there. This shift is largely due to white, college-educated voters and women prioritising abortion rights.
During her rally in Michigan on Saturday, Harris was interrupted by pro-Palestine protesters chanting, ‘No more Gaza war!’ with one protester calling her a ‘piece of sh*t’.

The demonstration highlighted growing tensions surrounding US foreign policy in the region and the impact of ongoing conflicts in Gaza on domestic political discourse.
As former First Lady, Michelle Obama joined Harris at a rally in Michigan. In a powerful speech, she criticized Donald Trump for ‘gross incompetence’ and an ‘amoral character’, urging hesitant voters to support Kamala Harris for president.

Obama also claimed Trump was “ducking interviews.”

After Michelle Obama concluded her speech, Beyonce’s 'Freedom' played as Kamala Harris took the stage, drawing cheers from the predominantly female audience. With just ten days remaining in the campaign, Harris made her closing argument, vowing to be a president who listens to the American people, contrasting herself with her opponent, whom she criticized for being self-absorbed. She stated, "Just imagine the Oval Office in three months: it is either Donald Trump in there stewing over his enemies’ list or me working for you, checking off my to-do list."
As pro-Palestine protesters interrupted Kamala Harris's speech, she paused to leave the stage before eventually resuming her address.
Trump Seeks Arab And Muslim Support
At a campaign rally in Michigan on Saturday, US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump made a significant move to court Arab and Muslim voters by inviting several Muslim leaders onstage with him.
"These voters have the potential to sway the election in either direction," Trump stated at a rally in Novi, Michigan, expressing his expectation of ‘overwhelming support’ from them in the state.

During his campaign rally, Donald Trump was joined onstage by several prominent leaders from Michigan’s Muslim community, including Imam Belal Alzuhairi. Alzuhairi called Trump the “peace” candidate, stating, “We, as Muslims, stand with President Trump because he promises peace, not war.” He highlighted their support for Trump due to his commitment to ending wars in the Middle East and Ukraine.
