A long time ago, a French man named Alfons Binet made the first IQ test in the early 1900s. He wanted to check how smart people are and see who might need extra help in school. At first, it was for kids, but later it was used for everyone to test their brain skills. The average IQ score is 100. Most people score between 85 and 115. If you get 130 or higher, you're seen as really smart. If you score 70 or lower, it might mean you have trouble thinking. IQ tests are still used a lot in schools and by doctors to understand how people’s brains work.
Smartest People in the World
The Giga Society is a group for people with super high IQs-- 190 or more. In 2025, they shared a list of the top 10 smartest people ever. These people are amazing in things like math, science, and medicine. Here's the list:

From South Korea, YoungHoon Kim has the highest IQ in 2024—276! Groups like the Giga Society say he’s super smart. He’s great at psychology, brain science, and languages, and he helps those fields a lot.
2. Terence Tao (IQ 230)
Terence Tao is from Australia and America. He’s a math genius who teaches at a big school called UCLA. He won a huge math prize in 2006 and is one of the best math brains today.
3. Marilyn Vos Savant (IQ 228)
Marilyn is an American writer. She writes a column called "Ask Marilyn" where she solves hard puzzles and questions. Her high IQ got her into the Guinness Book of World Records!
4. Christopher Hirata (IQ 225)
Christopher is a space scientist. He won a big prize in physics at 13 and got his Ph.D. at 22. He works on cool space stuff like dark energy and won a big award for it.

Sho is a doctor genius. He finished college at 12 and became a doctor at 21. He’s super smart in science about genes and tiny body parts.

Christopher taught himself and made a big idea called the Cognitive-Theoretic Model of the Universe. It mixes science and deep thoughts together.

Rick writes for TV and plays game shows. His IQ is super high, and his fun job makes him stand out as a smart guy.
10. Garry Kasparov (IQ 190)
Garry is a chess champ from Russia. He was the best in the world at 22 and stayed champ for years. Now he helps fight for freedom and rights.
